I’ve struggled with weight for most of my life, but it was the elevated cholesterol levels detected in a routine physical that got my attention. With a strong family history of early onset heart disease, this was a loud wake up call. At my doctor’s suggestion I decided to try a dietary approach before considering medication. I lost 50 pounds and lowered my cholesterol, which piqued my interest in the food / health connection.
I studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC, and received my certificate in Health Counseling from Teachers College of Columbia University. I have an MSW from Hunter College School of Social Work and a BA in Psychology from SUNY Binghamton. I’ve taken classes in health supportive cooking at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Food & Health.
